Silver is long lasting precious metal, however, don’t forget that it is natural for sterling silver to oxidize in time since it is H2O and air (sulphur mostly) sensitive. Oxidization is seen as mat dark tarnish. Wearing it frequently actually keeps sterling silver from oxidizing faster, but it will happen eventually.
CARE:
Avoid water and chemicals, perfumes, hand sanitizers and keep the ring in the original pouch for as long as you can, to keep oxygen at bay. Take off your jewelry while washing hands or taking a shower.
CLEANING:
This is what you can do at home to take some of the tarnish off: melt baking soda in hot water. Place a large piece of aluminium foil at the bottom of the cup (use an inside of an old toothpaste or cream tube or perhaps you just ate a chocolate wrapped in alu foil) and dip your jewelry in the mixture so that the jewelry is touching the aluminium foil. After a few minutes scrub the jewelry with a soft toothbrush and detergent under hot water. Rinse under running water and thoroughly dry of.
*Be careful if your piece has any small parts, chains or fastenings that might get damaged while scrubbing. If your piece has been oxidized intentionally, you might also loose some of the blackened surface effect. In this case, skip the baking soda part and go right to soft detergent scrubbing.
